The 2019 HIV League Scholarship application will be open on December 1st, 2018

 

Scholarship Details

 

  • All applicants are students living with HIV
  • All applicants are either currently or going to be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in an institution of higher education for at least one year
  • All applicants must have an unweighted GPA of 2.5
  • All applicants have the option to make their name public or not if they're awarded a scholarship
  • The HIV League Scholarship is the only national scholarship specifically for students living HIV, exists because there is great potential of any student living with HIV, and aims to build the leadership, knowledge, and skills of its scholars, which is the truest form of investment in one’s future
  • An HIV League Scholar is a promising student living with HIV as evidenced by their educational accomplishments, leadership, and service
 

The HIV League Scholarship : 2018

  • Reached out to 495+ Community Based Organizations/AIDS Service Organizations across the USA, Puerto Rico, and Guam
  • Received 76 applications from students living with HIV across 29 states, Puerto Rico, and international students going to a school in the United States
  • The age ranged from 17 to 55 among these 76 applicants
  • 57% of the 76 applicants were applying as a first-generation student
  • 27% of the 76 applicants identified as female, 64% of the 76 applicants identified as male, and 9% of the 76 applicants identified as genderqueer/gender nonconforming
  • 34% of the 76 applicants self-identified as Caucasian/White, 33% of the 76 applicants self-identified as African-American/Black, 16% of the 76 applicants self-identified as Hispanic/Latinx, 8% of the 76 applicants self-identified as Asian, 3% of the 76 applicants self-identified as Igbo, 3% of the 76 applicants self-identified as Native-American, and 3% of the 76 applicants identified as Mixed Race
  • Of the 76 applicants, 4 were selected as HIV League Scholars and received a $7,000 scholarship award. Read about them here

The HIV League Scholarship : 2017

  • Reached out to 225+ Community Based Organizations/AIDS Service Organizations across the USA and Puerto Rico
  • Received 42 applications from students living with HIV across 26 states
  • The age ranged from 17 to 64 among these 42 applicants
  • 36% of the 42 applicants identified as female, while 64% of the 42 applicants identified as male
  • Of the 42 applicants, 2 were selected as HIV League Scholars and received a $7,000 scholarship award. Read about them here
